Review of Adelaide by Genevieve Wheeler

Adelaide is an American expat living in London who falls into a devastating, all-consuming love for charming Englishman, Rory Hughes. Having had a fleeting moment with him years prior, it all feels like it’s suddenly meant to be. But he is flaky, he is avoidant and he is allergic to commitment. Nothing in his actions says he is boyfriend material, yet this aloofness makes him all the more charming and his unattainable affections makes Adelaide work even harder. She’s desperate to be loved, and desperate to feel appreciated, but one day the strength she’s mustered to keep going comes crumbling down, and she walks into the hospital as a cry for help.

This story broke my heart. Adelaide is such a generous, caring character and to see her be treated with such disrespect made me so angry. Rory Hughes is the most villainous character I have read in a long time, and the casual disregard for Adelaide’s feelings was infuriating. This book is a tear jerker, and it is a must-read for fans of Everything I Know About Love by Dolly Alderton.
