This is a vulnerable and tender coming-of-age story about a queer boy’s sense of self and his tumultuous dating life as a young man about to go to university. Isaac is on dating apps and is desperate to lose his virginity. The men he meets use his body in ways which are so new to Isaac, he’s unsure what is normal and where his boundaries lie. He’s young, he’s having sex, he’s trying to figure himself out.
Then Isaac meets Harrison, a man in his late twenties who is, comparatively, in such a different stage of his life. Harrison is a new lens through which Isaac can perceive the world.
With his A levels coming up, Isaac’s Mum doesn’t want him to be distracted, but the idea of exams seems so banal and unimportant when he could be with Harrison.
A story of sexuality, boyhood and identity, Isaac is such a compelling read that fully consumed me. Fans of Douglas Stuart will love this!
