If you love anything to do with mythology, then Nephthys is absolutely the sparkling and intricately written debut for you. We meet Clemmie, who has an unusual talent, she can read hieroglyphs, this to her father’s pleasure is a brilliant party trick until at one of her parents Victorian Society events, Clemmie reads a message that makes her feel extremely uneasy. Fast forward, Clemmie’s sister becomes unwell and she feels that the warning of the amulet message from that fateful evening is what causes her to travel to Egypt in the hopes of putting things right.
With themes of sisterhood and forgiveness, through Clemmie’s own chapters and insertions that tell the story of sisters Isis and Nephthys, the storyline unravels in a great way, although at times I felt that it was drawn out too much. Highly recommended!
