Review of The Stranger at the Wedding by A. E. Gauntlett

Updated: 5 days ago

If you’re looking for a deliciously dark, hanging-of-the-edge, unreliable narrative thriller then we HIGHLY recommend that you pick up a copy of The Stranger at the Wedding because it is EVERYTHING and more that our dark little thriller-loving hearts need!

Annie fell in love with Mark as soon as she saw him on the train, a missed connections start to a relationship which leads them to the contemporary day that just so happens to be their wedding day BUT there’s something tension filled in the air on this special day, there’s a stranger amongst the guests and he’s about to open a tin of worms that someone would much prefer to keep tightly sealed...

With a back and forth narrative which timeslips back to the beginning of their relationship, the reader will find themselves reaching for the popcorn as A. E. Gauntlet drops delicious breadcrumbs of information, shocking and gasp-inducing at times. The whole book is crafted to perfection, and it will have you suspicious of both of the bride and groom.

A Stranger at the Wedding is a nerve-tingling slice of psychological thriller, one that is written and reads incredibly well, with a jaw-dropping twist that will leave you feeling satisfied and needing a lie down.

Neither Annie or Mark are particularly likeable, but I think this added to the essence of the book which gripped me immediately from chapter one. I can’t wait to read more from this author!
