Fliss and James are up for the same promotion and to compete for the top spot they’re thrust into the Scottish highlands with nothing but a backpack each and one tent. James is a sales shark and Fliss a well organised marketer. They do not get along! Their differences in opinion make board meetings very tense, and everyone knows they are each other’s nemesis. When the boss declares a team bonding trip, no one is jumping for joy, and when only Fliss and James are the ones to turn up, they start to think something is going on.
Abandoned in the Scottish highlands, they must fend for themselves in the wild. Out in the fresh air, there isn’t the thrum of traffic and their arguing to distract them. They must work together, and in doing so, realise they make a good team. When James opens up about his past of financial difficulty as a child, his money grabbing ways make sense and Fliss starts to see him in a new light. Through embarrassing, laugh-out-loud mishaps along the way, Fliss and James see the humans beneath the workaholics they’ve become.
It’s been a while since I’ve enjoyed a rom-com this much! There’s so much fun and heart in this story. Many questions are raised on what motivates us in our careers, what we sacrifice for our jobs, how many companies are London-centric, and asks us what we really want from life.
For fans of Mhairi McFarlane and Sally Thorne, Work Trip is the workplace enemies to lovers a rom-com you don’t want to miss!
