Review of The Night Market by C. A. Byford

A wonderful and unique premise for a book: a human trapped within a vampire world until she can find a cure for her sister. The dynamic between Papper and Laik is fantastic, forced into playing siblings to maintain a lie and give them both a chance to find the rose that should grant them both freedom.

But with lawless and bloodthirsty vampires on the lose, even the best made plans go awry. The push and pull dynamics between the reveals in the plot and the tension between the characters was beautifully crafted and kept me reading until the final line, desperate for a way to stop the inevitable.

I loved the supernatural in the story and the way that it fed (pardon the pun) into every chapter. It was so clearly a vampire story and could have been nothing else. Incredibly excited to see where the story progresses in the future and how Pepper and Laik navigate their next adventures.
