This nuanced and astute look into the female experience means the stories shift in tone between wit and more serious depictions of the reality of women’s lives. From a childless couple being invaded by badgers as punishment to a story about an illegal collection of dildos in Texas, no story is the same, and spans across many genres from sci-fi to horror and magical realism.
I haven’t read a short story collection which is this bold and daring. It was one to devour in a sitting while also worth savouring to soak it all up. A real new literary talent, born from the Merky Books 2019 Writers’ Prize. A Beautiful Lack of Consequence is definitely for fans of Watching Women and Girls by Danielle Pender.
