Review of Esther is Now Following You by Tanya Sweeney

When I saw Esther is Now Following You had theme aspects of Baby Reindeer, I knew that I needed to read it immediately, and it did not disappoint! I was in an immediate bookish cholkhold, which included many laugh-out-loud moments, gasps and face palming events because out protagonist Esther is quite a character, who you really cannot help but love.

Esther is in love with Ted, an upcoming Canadian actor, and they’re going to have the best life together, only Ted doesn’t know it yet. so with inheritance money in her pocket, Esther books a one way flight to Canada to secure her man, but as you can imagine it doesn’t all go to plan!

Let’s rewind… This book is more than a Tedette trying to find her perfect man. It’s also about the trauma and grief Esther carries, and her yearning to escape her real life as a way of coping. It explores the unhealthy relationships that can form within fandoms and the obsession with celebrities, especially now, as more and more people have access to the internet and celebrity teams share an ever-increasing amount of carefully curated, accessible coverage.

Esther is Now Following You is a witty novel that has so many great layers and themes, with a character at the forefront who you can’t help but identify with on some level. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend that you pick up a copy!
