Review of Full Throttle by J. K. MacLaren

Fast-paced and exciting, this book grabbed me from the first chapter. With a split narrative that explores the messy past between Juliette and Dominic, we as the readers join the dangerous world of Formula 1 driving. Juliette is the first female F1 driver, doing everything it takes to prove that she (and her cowboy boots) deserve their space on the track.

But things get complicated as her space on the team is thrown into jeopardy and she’s pitted against her rival and teammate – and former trainer – Dominic. Cunning and thoughtful, this story reveals itself slowly as the will-they-won’t-they tension grows between our beloved narrators.

I adored the Shakespeare puns dotted throughout and found their inclusion alongside the commentary of feeling like an outsider in a sport that favours connections and wealth incredibly interesting. I also really enjoyed the exploration of the relationship between Dominic and his father, as well as that of Juliette and her brother Capulet.
