Review of Only Girls Bleed by Elaine Lawless

Difficult. This book was a difficult read and even more difficult to review. But that is not to say that I don’t think it’s worth reading. Whilst not an enjoyable read, this is an important and timely story. It’s a portrait of American motherhood and survival and an unflinching exploration of the consequences of overturning Roe Vs Wade by Dr Elaine Lawless, author of many academic books around gender studies and social justice.

It’s a tale of a mother’s plight, a daughter’s suffering and a fight against the powers that be. Read with caution.
