Salt & Metal is Sallyanne Rock's debut poetry pamphlet exploring themes of domestic abuse. It's a visceral collection that confronts the reader, packing a punch right from the opening lines. Rock's poetry manages to be lyrical and beautiful despite the ugly subject matter.
Ultimately, this is an empowering collection, with poetry so expertly crafted, it's hard to believe it's a debut. This is one you'll want to underline, annotate and dog-ear the pages of. One that deserves to be re-read and savoured. I was enthralled from the very first poem, 'Charles de Gaulle Airport security desk', and it was unputdownable from there.
