Review of The Eye of Goliath by Diego Muzzio (translated by Rahul Bery)

This gothic tale starts in a Scottish sanatorium where Dr Edward Pierce works on experimental therapies for traumatised WW1 soldiers. Late one night, he receives a visitor who asks him to take on the bizarre case of a man driven mad in a desolate lighthouse in Argentina.

Following the man’s descent into madness through his macabre diary, Edward becomes obsessed and the lines between doctor and patient begin to blur in a unique contemporary take on The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.

This reads like a true gothic classic but I must admit that I found it a little slow going and meandering despite it’s very short length.
